Brent Initial Teacher Training (BITT) is a strong partnership of primary and secondary schools working with Middlesex University to provide high quality teacher training. Our vision is to train and develop the next generation of outstanding teachers for Brent schools.

The consortium of schools involved in the delivery of Initial Teacher Training has a high level of expertise and strong commitment to delivering exceptional training. We have a proven track record, successfully training teachers for many years.

In partnership with Middlesex University, BITT can provide a broad range of experiences and developmental opportunities within a multi-culturally diverse population, which enriches the experience of teaching within this unique community. Our Teacher Training Programme, leads to a PGCE qualification with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Students will join the PGCE programme for training at Middlesex (60 days in total across the year), school placements will be arranged by the BITT. Over the year the programme is designed to include 120 days of school-based training. This will provide you with opportunities to teach across the 5-11 age range enabling you to develop your skills for teaching and for understanding the interrelationship between learning and teaching, as you develop in to a critically reflective practitioner.

Initial Teacher Training students will be trained in a highly supportive and aspirational environment and will develop the rigour, professional knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for the delivery of creative, purposeful and challenging teaching and learning. Training will be delivered by expert teachers within the partnership of schools.

Entry requirements for all programmes

For Primary: Applicants are required to have a second-class honours degree 2:2 or above. In addition to GCSEs at grade C or 4, or equivalent in English, mathematics and science.

For Secondary: We require a second-class honours degree 2:2 or above with at least 50% subject content supported by a strong A Level (or equivalent). In addition to GCSEs at grade C or 4, or equivalent in English and mathematics.

As a trainee teacher on our programme, we expect candidates to:
