Instrumental Lessons

We work in collaboration with Brent Music Service (BMS) to deliver Music Instrumental Lessons.

We currently offer the following lessons:

  • Violin/Viola and Keyboard - Year 1-6
  • Guitar - Year 2-6
  • Trumpet/Trombone, Flute and Clarinet - Year 3-6

All instrumental lessons take place during the school day and are delivered by specialist tutors from BMS. Groups of up to 4 pupils at a time receive 30-minute lessons for 33 lessons across the year (averaging to 11 lessons per term) resulting in lessons most weeks of the school year.

Often, tutors aim to over-deliver lessons in the Autumn term to ensure there is less chance of lessons clashing with events (trips, tests, external/internal events, etc.) in the Spring and Summer term.

Tutors will collect all Key Stage 1 pupils for every lesson, and all Key Stage 2 pupils for the first few weeks of sessions, after this, all pupils in Key Stage 2 take responsibility for remembering their lessons and attending them on time.

At KGPS and BMS, we value the act of practising musical instruments and we encourage all our students taking lessons to keep up with their practise throughout the year make the most progress. It is also important for your child to have access to their own instrument and music book. Additionally, they will be provided with a practise journal that we kindly request you review on a weekly basis.

Instrumental lessons cost £67 per term, or £201 for year (33 total lessons spread out over the school year, average 11 lessons per term). These are to be paid for via ParentPay. Children who are eligible to receive support through Pupil Premium Grants are eligible for the subsidised cost of £24 per term, or £72 for the year. Please note that there are a limited number of places for each instrument. We frequently receive high volumes of applicants. If your child's chosen instrument is at capacity, we will try our best to offer them their second choice instrument. In the event that both instruments are at capacity, your child will be placed on a waiting list until such a time as we have space.

All instrumentalists will have opportunities to regularly perform to their peers and are invited to perform to parents/guests at concerts/assemblies. As pupils progress, they may be invited to join BMS ensembles. BMS ensembles take place outside of school hours.
